Mission Statement

Abington Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC)

The Environmental Advisory Council's charge is to:

  • Identify environmental problems.

  • Recommend plans and programs to the appropriate agencies for the promotion and conservation of the natural resources and for the protection and improvement of the quality of the environment within the area of this municipality.
  • Make recommendations as to the possible use of open land areas of this municipality.
  • Promote a community environmental program.
  • Keep an index of all open areas, publicly or privately owned, including but not limited to flood-prone areas, swamps and other unique natural areas.
  • Advise the appropriate local governmental agencies in the acquisition of property, both real and personal.
  • Undertake such environmental tasks as requested by the governing body of this municipality.
Awbury Arboretum To preserve and interpret Awbury's historic house and landscape, thereby connecting an urban community with nature and history.
Centro Nueva Creacion Centro Nueva Creacion's mission is to transform their neighborhood, by building up their youth and families to create a better community. They provide services in youth leadership development, education to employment, and neighborhood and community building. 
Cheltenham Township  
Department of Conservation of Natural Resources (DCNR)  The primary mission of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is to maintain, improve and preserve state parks; to manage state forest lands to assure their long_term health, sustainability and economic use; to provide information on Pennsylvania's ecological and geologic resources; and to administer grant and technical assistance programs that will benefit rivers conservation, trails and greenways, local recreation, regional heritage conservation and environmental education programs across Pennsylvania.
Earthright Earthright's purpose is to educate, support and organize individuals, organizations and corporations to promote conservation and efficient, non-polluting systems of resource utilization and waste management. The goal of Earthright is to promote action locally within homes and communities to enhance the global environment which our children will inherit.
Edison/ Fareira High School Thomas Alva Edison/John C. Fareira High School is a senior high school located in North Philadelphia with close to 3000 students. Edison is a multicultural school and is the largest multiracial school in Philadelphia. Edison/Fareira is a combined academic high school and vocational skills center.
Environmental Protection Agency   The mission of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is to protect human health and to safeguard the natural environment — air, water, and land — upon which life depends.
Environmental Protection Agency - VISTA  Since 1964, Americorps*VISTA members have been working in underserved communities throughout the United States. By creating programs that will continue on after they complete their service, VISTA members encourage self-sustainability among the people they serve. Each VISTA strives to educate and empower the community with the resources it needs to become self-sufficient.
Frankford Group Ministry  To increase Frankford's self reliance through housing and economic development initiatives with low and moderate income residents particularly in east and southwest Frankford. 
FrankfordStyle Community Arts Organization   The mission of FrankfordStyle is to provide high quality instruction in the visual, performing and literary arts, murals and community beautification, and cultural animation to community residents of different, ethnic, racial, and class backgrounds.
Friends of Tacony Creek Park This "friends of the park" group does monthly cleanups and general maintenance, and the interests of the members focus primarily on the park's recreational utility and, especially, the issue of safety.

Glenside Green

 Glenside Green is a non-profit. volunteer, community organization, dedicated to the planting and maintaining of trees and plants in the Glenside Community. This Community encompasses both Abington and Cheltenham Townships.

Glenside Green is here to educate the community about its need for trees and plants to beautify and sustain an environmentally conscious Community.

Heritage Conservancy Heritage Conservancy is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving our natural and historic heritage. Founded in 1958, it was concern for the rapid loss of open space in Bucks County which led to the formation of the Bucks County Park Foundation, known today as Heritage Conservancy.
Melrose Park Neighbors Association Melrose Park Neighbors Association is an organization of neighbors dedicated to creating a better life and environment for residents in this area and the vicinity.
National Park Service  The National park Service preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the national park system for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. The Park Service cooperates with partners to extend the benefits of natural and cultural resource conservation and outdoor recreation throughout this country and the world.
Natural Lands Restoration & Environmental Education Program NLREEP is working to restore the natural areas in seven watershed and estuary parks throughout the city, and build a constituency for the park’s protection through environmental education and public stewardship.  The seven parks that are included in the program are: Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Cobbs Creek, Fairmount (East/West), Tacony Creek, Pennypack, Poquessing Creek and Wissahickon Valley .
PA Department of Environmental Protection  The Department of Environmental Protection’s mission is to protect Pennsylvania’s air, land and water from pollution and to provide for the health and safety of its citizens through a cleaner environment. We will work as partners with individuals, organizations, governments and businesses to prevent pollution and restore our natural resources.
Pennsylvania Environmental Council The Pennsylvania Environmental Council improves quality of life for all Pennsylvanians by enhancing the Commonwealth's natural and built environments by integrating advocacy, education and implementation of community and regional action projects. The Council values reasoned and long-term approaches that include the interests of all stakeholders to accomplish its goals
Philadelphia Earth Force  Philadelphia Earth Force's mission is to focus on helping young people in grades 5 thorough 9 acquire the knowledge, skills and experiences to take civic action leading to long- term improvement of the local environment. A critical component of this process is enabling young people to direct their own community problem-solving process by choosing action projects that work to change local policy (school, government or private policy), or effect a widespread change in community residents' behavior or practices.
Philadelphia Water Department, Office of Watersheds To preserve and enhance the health of the region’s watersheds through effective wastewater and storm water services and the adoption of a comprehensive watershed management approach that achieves a sensible balance between cost and environmental benefit and is based on planning and acting in partnership with other regional stakeholders.

Senior Environmental Corps  The Pennsylvania Senior Environment Corps (PaSEC) program is our nation’s first statewide organized senior environment corps. PaSEC is the result of a multi-agency and national non-profit group partnership.
Tookany Creek Watershed Management Plan  
U.S. Army Corp of Engineers  Our mission is to provide quality, responsive engineering services to the nation including: 
  • Planning, designing, building and operating water resources and other civil works projects (Navigation, Flood Control, Environmental Protection, Disaster Response, etc.) 
  • Designing and managing the construction of military facilities for the Army and Air Force. (Military Construction) 
  • Providing design and construction management support for other Defense and federal agencies. (Interagency and International Services)
