In July, 1998, the Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) inaugurated the Environmental Projects Advisory Committee, or EPAC.  This committee is comprised of about a dozen PWD employees with an interest in and mission of coordinating the implementation of environmentally-friendly, cost-saving improvements and practices on PWD properties.  Some of the  projects that EPAC has been involved with are listed below:

 

·        Southwest Water Pollution Control Plant’s (SWWPCP) Meadows

·        SWWPCP’s Amphibian Pond Project

·        Bird boxes at SWWPCP, Biosolids Recycling Plant, and Baxter Water Treatment Plant

·        Southeast Water Pollution Control Plant’s Meadows

·        Conversion at Baxter Water Treatment Plant from Woodland to Meadow

·        Somerton Tanks/Loesche School Meadows Project – “Mad About Meadows”
