The SAN uses the below measures to track progress.

Measures

Improved Watershed Health
  • Increase in aquatic life, number and diversity, and in stream miles attaining existing uses;

  • Restoration of all impaired stream miles to attain their designated uses;

Improved Public Value
  • Significant improvement in public perception of the Schuylkill River as a vital regional natural resource that should be protected;

  • A return to the river by the public for the purpose of recreation,sport and enjoyment;

Safer Drinking Water/Reduced Need for Treatment
  • Reduction in annual pollutant loadings to source water due to source water protection efforts;

  • Estimated treatment cost savings through improved source water quality.

Progress To Date:
  • 2006 SAN Progress Report (pdf)

  • Organized a multi-group partnership and planning committee.

  • Established the SAN Constitution, a signatory pledge of stakeholders committed to protecting the Schuylkill Watershed for future generations.

  • Developed a new Watershed Land Protection Collaborative (WLPC) to link land resource use with water protection efforts.

  • Establishing a Water Quality Monitoring Network.

Next Steps Planned:
  • Continue to build membership.
  • Conduct 2006 strategic planning effort.

  • Conduct cost analysis for Schuylkill Restoration and examine financing options.

  • Implement Schuylkill Watershed Initiative Grant projects.

  • Continue to find funding for and implement priority projects.

  • Establish Watershed Monitoring Network.
