Goal

Improve stormwater management to reduce and prevent stormwater runoff pollution in the watershed

 

 

Objectives

  • Increase the number of workshops, tours, and training events for municipal officials that are sponsored by the Storm Water Workgroup

  • Increase the number if BMP improvements, such as naturalized or retrofitted stormwater basins

  • Reduce the number and length of stream impairments due to stormwater runoff

 

Strategies

  • Help municipalities to better understand, navigate, and fulfill their stormwater management responsibilities by providing technical assistance and support in priority areas

  • Encourage and facilitate the development of financing mechanisms for stormwater management

  • Support and promote the implementation of BMPs by providing outreach, education, and technical assistance

  • Increase attention and resources to stormwater management needs among key audiences

 

Accomplishments

  • The workgroup advised the Environmental Finance Center of their work with municipalities on stormwater finance planning.  

  • The workgroup assisted the PADEP in reviewing stormwater ordinances for priority municipalities.

  • The workgroup and the EPA prepared a summary of the barriers to and benefits of a watershed-wide Act 167 plan.

  • The workgroup supported outreach to municipalities in the Wissahickon Creek watershed to identify priority basin retrofit projects.
